Upgrade Your Technical Skills with Deliberate Practice
Deliberate Practice
- Activities designed, typically by a teacher, for the sole purpose of effectively improving specific aspects of an individual’s performance.
- there’s no point in solving complex problems if you can’t solve smaller ones
- this type of practice focuses on reinforcing your knowledge of smaller parts of complex tasks
“The mistake most weak pianists make is playing, not practicing. If you walk into a music hall at a local university, you’ll hear people ‘playing’ by running through their pieces. This is a huge mistake. Strong pianists drill the most difficult parts of their music, rarely, if ever playing through their pieces in entirety.” -Cal Newport
Carol Dweck on the Growth Mindset
- Having a growth mindset means you understand that you have abilities that can be developed
- Having a fixed mindset can stop you from learning by placing a mental barrier in your advancement in that subject
- Praise wisdom not intelligence, your ability to solve problems is more valuable than the retention of knowledge
Angela Lee Duckworth on Grit
“Grit is passion and perseverance it was written for very long term goals. Grit is having stamina. Greatest thinking with your future, Dayton, day out…” - Angela Lee
Alain de Botton on Redefining Success
